Primary Research Interests:
Toxicology of organophosphorus (OP) insecticides and related compounds, including structure-activity relationships, role of aliesterase and A-esterase in OP detoxication, resistance to OP's in insects, and reactivation of phosphorylated cholinesterase by oximes. Extensive experience in in vitro assay of esterase activity and inhibition, synthesis of OP's, carbamates and oximes, and various acute toxicity bioassays with insects. Have worked in recent past with organophosphate-induced delayed neuropathy (OPIDN) and neuropathy target esterase (NTE).
Present Teaching Responsibilities:
(1) Toxicology and Insecticide Chemistry: Undergraduate/Graduate. Survey of the chemistry, toxicity and mechanisms of action of commercial insecticides.
(2) Advanced Toxicology: Graduate. Physiological and biochemical actions, structure-activity relationships, and metabolism of pesticides, therapeutic drugs and natural toxins.
